Presentation at annual meeting on environmental strategy - Denmark

Toward a social-ecological materially efficient economy? Denmark in a global context

The challenge of staying within environmentally safe planetary boundaries while reaching just goals of social development is one of the most wide-ranging and urgent challenges of the 21st century, recently conceptualized as the “safe and just operating space for humanity” and the unifying theme of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). The environmental and social goals of the “safe and just space” are deeply interconnected through natural resources consumed to achieve social development, often the cause of environmental deterioration. Thus, improving the efficiency with which societies use increasingly scarce materials to achieve social and environmental goals is one of the most important metrics of progress toward the “safe-and-just space”. Denmark's progress toward higher socio-ecological material efficiency is  placed in a global context and compared to states and changes in more  than 100 countries.

Dialogen tager udgangspunkt i følgende problemstillinger:

• Hvem kunne gøre hvad for at fremme bæredygtig omstilling?
